You need
Words & Music by Dario Lastella.
You need, I know,
A faster car to go to work.
You need, it’s true,
This super TV in silver and blue.
You need, so I think,
Something special that makes you dream.
You need, come on try,
That’s a free trial and then you can buy.
Come on boy, we are all friends,
We’ve got everything you deserve to have.
What about money?
Please don’t mind,
We can wait, you’ll have all the time.
You need, we know,
A lot of time to go to work.
You need, it’s true,
To be more productive just to get through.
You need, so we think,
To be another wheel in our perfect machine
You need this, come on try,
That’s our patented
Western lifestyle.
Relax boy, don’t worry please,
We’ll tell you what you will need.
The deal is fair we do things right,
We’ll just take all of your time.
You need, we think so,
To make more money and waste it all.
You all need this, it’s true,
For the benefit of every one of you…
10 years old
Words & Music by Dario Lastella.
I came back home from school,
But something didn’t work.
They were shouting like two fools
And their words hit like the stones.
I could not know what was wrong
When my father left my home.
When they left me alone,
I was just 10 years old.
Now I must understand
All these changes in my life:
My house now is very strange
There are so many people inside.
They built up new families,
Now they tell me I have to grow,
Don’t want this, I’m not free.
But I’m just 10 years old.
Ooh Lord, oh what have I done?
I am a boy, what have I done?
Ooh Lord, oh how can I grow?
I must be a man, but I’m just 10 years old!
I’m not afraid, the sky is red,
I feel alright, I’m not scared,
Now I’m a man, I’m not sad,
My dad is gone, but I’m not scared.
The path is long, my dress is wet,
Don’t feel alright, but I’m not scared.
I must go on, don’t turn my head,
My bones are trembling, but I’m not scared,
Don’t feel alone, don’t feel sad,
I walk alone, but I’m not scared,
Don’t feel the cold, I move my legs,
I go straight, I’m not scared.
Don’t feel a child, I guess I’ve grown,
Don’t feel a child, I guess I’ve grown,
Don’t feel the pain, I’m 10 years old.
I walk alone, I feel so bad,
I walk alone, but I’m not scared,
Where am I going, I feel so sad,
Who will I be, I’m not scared.
The path is long, my eyes are wet,
Don’t feel alright, but I’m not scared.
Where am I going? Can’t stop my step,
My bones are trembling, but I’m not scared,
My dad explains, he is not bad,
It’s just a life, I’m not scared,
My mum explains, she is not bad,
It’s just their life, I’m not scared.
I go straight, don’t know the way,
I feel alone, but I’m not scared,
Just keep on growing, don’t feel the cold,
I’m a man 10 years old!
Ooh Lord, what have I done?
I’m a boy, what have I done?
Ooh Lord, how can I grow?
I must be a man, but I’m just 10 years old!
Ooh Lord, what have I done?
I’m a boy, where do I go?
Ooh Lord, what have they done?
They want a man, but I’m just 10 years old!
Background noise
Words & Music by Dario Lastella.
Background noise, background noise.
Background noise, background noise.
I began to dream their dreams, to desire their things.
I began to sell my life to satisfy my new needs.
Now I sleep on the street, but I still need more.
I’m background noise, just background noise.
I was the queen of the world, the prettiest girl on earth.
Every man that I smiled to had fallen in love.
But that time passed too fast, all those men forgot.
Now I’m background noise, just background noise.
Background noise, would you listen to me?
Background noise, please listen to me.
Background noise, I’m still alive,
I’m not background noise, background noise!
I’ve got everything that you all can ever desire.
I can control the bank that wrecked the first guy.
But I sold all my dreams and they left me alone.
I feel I’m background noise, just background noise.
We’re an average band with this song to play.
We stand among a million sounds that build up this space.
Will we catch your attention? Will you hear our voice?
Or will we be some noise, just background noise?
Background noise, are you listening to me?
Background noise, please listen to me.
Background noise, my life is
Just background noise, background noise!
Background noise, background noise…
Thirsty
Words & Music by Dario Lastella.
Light comes in even if my window is closed.
Too thin the curtain that I’ve put on.
Light burns up my dreams and shows the morning come.
Hundreds of thousands of pictures turn me on.
Inside my pillow they’re blowing, winds and rage,
Beneath the sheets there’s no way out of my cage.
In my head resounds the echo of those old tales,
I try to come out… in vain.
I’m weak and I’m thirsty of love.
I’m weak and I’m thirsty of power.
I can’t believe, I’m swimming in a pool,
Surrounded by a liquid it was red and blue,
Now lights change, that liquid turns to glue,
I can’t move its scent turns me fool.
Outside my bed nothing has changed,
My blood slows and then it melts,
Beneath the sheets I feel breathless in my cage,
A stranger came and now he’s the owner of my brain.
I’m weak and I’m thirsty of love.
I’m weak and I’m thirsty of power.
Learning to communicate
Words & Music by Dario Lastella.
Silicon, lithium and a nice plastic case
Make me feel home even if I’m away.
Communication it’s so easy today.
You can call me or we can chat…
Or I better send you an e-mail.
Ooh don’t you think it’s funny?
Ooh I think it’s extremely funny!
We keep on telling lies
In our first and second lives
And everything seems alright.
Microelectronics rearranged the world to their size.
It’s supersonic, it’s smaller and faster and full of lights.
Now I feel lonely, so I look for you somewhere dot net.
You are so pretty, no need to go out to go to bed.
Ooh don’t you think it’s funny?
Ooh it’s so funny!
We can have sex for weeks
All safe behind the screen
But we will never meet.
Unknown eyes
Words & Music by Dario Lastella.
My voice is low,
My walk is slow,
I’m a perfect unknown.
I sail alone
In a noisy road,
I’m my boat.
Too many eyes,
Unknown eyes
Behind their disguise.
I’m unknown,
They’re unknown,
I feel I drown.
Why don’t you understand?
I put my rags
In a plastic bag,
I must forget.
I set my brain,
I use a blade,
I change its shape.
I put my boots
On my moon,
I lose my roots.
I’m just a stain,
I change my shape,
I’m not the same.
Why don’t you understand?
My eyes lie, my eyes don’t mind,
They’re unknown eyes…
Poison
Words & Music by Dario Lastella.
Poison, it’s poison for me…
I remember the first day, I remember that day,
When I place my eyes on it,
They promised great thrills, it was a big drill,
At least I had a new need.
They created my new world, now they’ve got complete control.
I believed that what I am was more worth than what I own.
They filled my empty spaces and I bought everything they said,
Slowly moving in my head, their poison melted my brain.
How can I get out?
How can I get out?
How can I get out?
How can I get out?
Poison, it’s poison for me…
Faster, faster intoxication.
I go around with no direction.
They sold me the keys to play, I sold my life to pay.
Yes, I am to blame.
I started to play their game, now I can’t control my brain.
I feel so ashamed.
I need an antidote, an antidote for this…
Poison, it’s poison for me…
I’ve got strong addiction,
I don’t want this condition.
I need an antidote, an antidote for this…
Naked
Words & Music by Dario Lastella.
I’m lonely in my room with all the things I have,
I’ve got so many books, I’ve got my big TV there.
I’ve got all my guitars I needed and I bought,
But I can write no more songs, my soul got too cold.
And in my breast I still feel my old heart,
Sometimes it hurts and my breath gets short.
And far away through my window I can see the shining stars,
Would like to be with them, but now I’m too far.
And I find myself among a thousand eyes,
In this stupid race I’m running against the time.
Can anybody please tell me what’s the need
Of everything I have if I’ve lost my dreams.
I’ve just lost my dreams.
Don’t know much about music I know barely few chords,
And I’m not a poet, it could have been a better song.
I’m not a movie star, I’ve got green eyes,
I’ve gained too much weight, I feel the cold shiver of the night.
I’ve got a soul sadder than me, would like to know how I should be.
And I have no more time, I spent it all to get more.
Now I’ve got everything, but I’m nothing and I’m alone.
Now I’m naked with all my things just there,
Now I’m naked I’m just these things I have.
But now I know that’s not enough,
I won’t be enough, you’ll want more
You’ll want more.
I want back the need of learning something.
I want back the taste of a sunny morning.
I want back the need to start singing.
I want back a moment to stop thinking.
I want back the need to be brave.
I want back all the time that I gave.
I want back my dreams, my doubts, my fire.
I want back my soul, my time, my life.
Now I’m in front of you, I’ve got no masks…
I’m naked.
Empty
Words & Music by Dario Lastella.
Ooh it’s too cold my night,
Ooh it’s too weak my sight,
Now it’s a new beginning,
But I feel it as an end.
Ooh it’s too weak my light,
Ooh it’s too long this night,
Now it’s a new beginning,
It’s the first day of the rest of my life.
Having good sex can be easy.
So many people mix it with power.
Having a good job, with some power
Can turn your mind on, you can feel it like sex.
All in all, life’s a hole
You just have to fill the empty space.
I’m a space explorer, I lost my starship,
I’m a defeated soldier, no ears will hear my grief.
I’m a space explorer, dark is all that I see,
Nothing back of my shoulders, nothing in front of me.
Empty…
Empty eyes on an empty face
Filling holes in an empty place.
Empty words with empty sounds
Filling time and needs and hopes and fears.
You feel the space, feel the cold,
Where is empty wind blows strong.
I’m a space explorer, I lost my starship,
I’m a defeated soldier, no ears will hear my grief.
I’m a space explorer, dark is all that I see,
Nothing back of my shoulders, nothing in front of me.
I’m a hamster, I was running in my wheel,
I was quite happy, everyday someone fed me.
But I missed something closed in my cage,
I felt I had to do something to make a change.
So one day my life has completely changed…
I’m still fed by someone, I’m still living in a cage,
I’m still running in the wheel all days, all nights…
But now I run to the other side!
Oceans of Time
Words & Music by Dario Lastella.
We were so young we had oceans of time.
We were so wise we had oceans of time.
We were like many larvae learning to fly,
But at the end we became no butterflies.
We sold our dreams one day
To be a part of this machine.
That day we lost our lives,
We lost our wings, we lost our time.
We spent our days feeding hunger and greed.
We gobbled up our dreams digesting new needs.
Sometimes metamorphoses take other directions
Converting ourselves in monsters in need of possession.
But finally we learned
Those dirty tricks inside the machine.
Now all we must grab our lives,
Spread our wings, taste our time.
We’ll have oceans of time…

if is back with a new progressive rock concept album. The words are about the human rendition to materialism, so the music is harder, the rhythms are stronger, the sounds are heavier.
Everything has a price, everything is a product, everything is goods. A gigantic Machine was generated following these rules. The Machine now is a part of us and we are part of the Machine, human gears wedged in the new order of “produce and consume”.
Our weaknesses feed up the Machine, our natural tendency to get addicted to new and changing needs, our obsession of possession: we need to own things, more things, useless objects become necessary and even relationships, love and sex become products, good with a fixed price.
Sex becomes power and this power needs possession. The obsession for possession is our drug, the poison that controls our consciences. We keep on filling our houses with things while we’re getting empty, at the end we’re naked and we lost of the only thing that we can’t buy: our Time.
The Machine created our new needs and it satisfied us filling our lives with objects and debts, while we paid with the only thing that we really owned, our Time, the Ocean where our Soul flowed.

Ottimo giudizio.

if are one of Italy’s hidden gems. They dare to experiment both in sound and arrangement, yet always stay melodic. A brand new album “Morpho Nestira” have sort of their own style, though clearly are influenced by legends. There’re some psychedelic elements according to Pink Floyd and some energetic pieces based on power chords a’la Alice Cooper. This combination does work really well.
